GUILTY PLEASURES

She looked at the cigarette

marked by her lip

bright red, it colored.

It soon extinguished,

she placed it down

and marked another one

and another

till she felt she no longer

graced the earth with her presence.

She rose,

her lips brown

pining for the red.

———————————-

People saw a cigarette

She saw her life,

burnt and dyeing

into fumes and fire.

As the smoke rose, her lips parted

and smile, she did.
