THE PROBLEM WITH US.

He shouldn’t have done that, should he have?

She squirmed in his gasp

lips shut, eyes screaming for help.

She stood there, bearing the weight of his hand

digging her shoulders,

progressing down.

I wish I had known

that it was a woman that needed help

But I was only nine years old.

He shouldn’t have done that, should he have?

She struggled her best.

Skin itching, legs fleeing.

She sat there, submissive

while he laughed at her helplessness.

I wish I had known

that it was a woman that needed help

But I was only fifteen years old.

She shouldn’t have done that, should she have?

He wanted to run, away from her.

Tears falling, screams screaming.

He sat there broken, torn

while she hit him, again and again.

I wish I had known

that it was a boy that needed help

But I was only twenty one years old.

They shouldn’t have done that, should they have?

She wanted to be accepted, loved.

She looked down at her breasts

placed symmetrically on a chest that was once his.

She sat there unashamed, proudly

proud to extinguish herself for a cause.

They set fire to her skin

and all it took was minutes

before her ashes were among the wind.

I wish I had known

that it was a community that needed help

But I was onlg thirty one years old.

The world shouldn’t have done that, should it have?

All we wanted was to exist.

But people have motives,

rather nasty ones, might one add.

But I wish I had known,

that it was us thag needed help.

Alas! I was born among us.
